Leaks/ More Than 65 Percent of Married Ghanaian Women CHEAT–Says Dr. Larry Boateng by PrettyPrisi(f) : 4:58 am On May 12

Dr. Larry Boateng, a  s*xotherapist and counsellor has stated that more 65 per cent of married women in Ghana seek s*xual pleasure outside marriage.

Talking about ‘Successful Marriage’ on Class FM’s Executive Breakfast Show, he said that “times have changed and by the time couples settle down the women may have been exposed to different kinds of men with different s*xual experiences and if the husbands do not live up to such standards, the wives tend to seek pleasure elsewhere,” reports Class Fm.

He stated that research has proven that cheating wives are “very common in Ghana now”, adding: “Do you know why? They [the husbands] are not performing.”

According to Dr Boateng, financial challenges contribute greatly to husbands, often the providers in the family, spending so much time working to earn enough income for the family at the expense of quality time with their spouses–which leads to their spouses cheating.(...)

Sports/ Sulley Muntari says Russia hosting 2018 World Cup will 'bring peace' by PrettyPrisi(f) : 10:58 pm On May 12

Sulley Muntari believes Russia’s hosting of the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals is an opportunity to introduce diversity to sections of their population.

The Ghana international has been at the centre of a racial storm in Italy after he was abused by fans of Cagliari two weeks ago while playing for Pescara in the Serie A.

“I think it is a good thing that Russia is going to host the next World Cup,” said Muntari.

“They will show that maybe all Russians aren’t racist. The world will see another part of Russia, and Russia will see another part of the world. They will mingle with different kind of people, different kinds of states.”

Other players including Brazilian forward Givanildo Vieira de Sousa, better known as Hulk, Ghanaian Emmanuel Frimpong and former Brazil great Roberto Carlos — who twice had bananas brandished at him in 2011 — have complained about facing racial abuse in Russia.

Football watchdog FARE Network documented over 200 cases of racism in Russian football in a 2015 report.

Alexei Sorokin, the head of the body organizing the 2018 tournament, told FIFA’s congress that Russia will do its best “to ensure that every fan that comes is welcomed and has an unforgettable experience.”

Sorokin added: “Watch great football, in a big, hospitable, culturally multi-faceted country.”

Despite the closing of its anti-racism task force in September, FIFA insists that its work is not done.

“FIFA’s position on any form of discrimination is unequivocal: There is no place for racism or for any form of discrimination in football, as clearly described in the FIFA Statutes,” it said in a statement.

FIFA has also defended its selection of Russia, while appealing for all players to participate.

“History has shown so far that boycotting sport events or a policy of isolation or confrontation are not the most effective ways to solve problems,” it said in a 2014 statement.

“We can achieve positive change in the world, but football cannot be seen as a solution for all issues, particularly those related to world politics.”

Muntari appears to agree.
“FIFA has done well, because you can’t run from your problems. You have to tackle (them),” he says.

“I have no doubt that the World Cup there is going to be amazing, and is going to bring a lot of people together, and peace.”

There are the living.

And there are the not.

Creation is delicate.

As each has its forte.

We breathe the same air.

Our innates, we flare; If we care.

And our time; we choose, when to share.

We are the living.

And we can make believe: in.

Even if we are deceiving.

We are the men.

The men of continuous changing.

The men of shuffling.

The men of many faces.

We are the men of continuous changing and shuffling of many faces.

We are the men of truth.

We are the men of proof.

We are the men of choice.

And we are the men: poised.

We are the men in living.

We are the men in bodies.

And that of shadows.

We are the men of light.

We are the men even out of sight.

And we are the men in cover; that of dark hallows.

We are the men of strength.

We are the men of meekness.

We are the men in the lights of gents.

Yet, we are the men with hearts of dents.

We are the men with happy faces.

We are the men at smiling paces.

Yet, we are the men with the sadden cases.

We are the men of past in history.

We are the men of present symphony.

And we will be the men in the future of mystery.

We are the men of godly light.

Yet, we are the men in demonic sight.

We are the men of pure and right.

But we can be men with lust and pride.

We are the men that remain the same.

But we are also the men that can twist to a minute-hand change.

We are the men with a single face.

But we owe to ourselves to change the shade; each and everyday.

For when the time is due, we ought to obey.

We are men with single faces.

We are men of all races.

Yet, we are men with many mask laces.

And we change at every single pace.

On every single case.

We all own one face.

But our conscience owns many mask faces.

We all wear mask everyday.

The mask that suits every picture in time.

The mask that depicts our emotions with the intentions of our divine.

Whether in good or bad.

Strength or meekness.

Truth or deceitfulness.

We wear many; everyday.

Leaks/ Africa makes progress reducing Child deaths using Vaccines by PrettyPrisi(f) : 5:42 pm On May 13

Accra, May 12, GNA – With the use of vaccines, child deaths in Africa have been reduced by 80 per cent since 1990, Dr Orin Levine, Director of Vaccine Delivery, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has said on Friday.

‘It is incredible that African countries, in less than a generation, have rid itself of smallpox and epidemic meningitis using vaccines and polio is nearly gone from every last corner’.

Dr. Levine in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said it was incredible that African countries, in less than a generation, have again made tremendous gains in increasing access to immunization and driving down child deaths.

The progress he said was encouraging, but there was still a lot to accomplish and though after big gains, immunization levels were stagnating.

‘One in five children across Africa still misses out on getting all the basic immunizations, whether it is because of lack of funding or accessibility in remote areas. Missing the mark by nearly 20 percent is unacceptable. We owe future generations more.’

He noted Immunization was one of the best investments the Foundation could make to save and improve the lives of children.

‘It’s safe, protective and a great investment in our communities. Each $1 invested in childhood vaccines returns $44 in economic and social benefits by reducing the costs of illness and suffering and by helping healthy individuals contribute to the economy,’ he added.

He noted that the continent had also made outstanding progress in getting more vaccines to more children but the continent was behind in meeting the Regional Immunisation Strategic Plan (RISP) targets.

‘However, while many challenges remain, African countries have proven that they can succeed and there are reasons to be optimistic that Africa will meet the RISP targets’, he added.

Dr Levine leads the Foundation’s efforts to accelerate the introduction of new vaccines and related technologies to improve routine immunization systems. He is the Foundation’s focal point for engagement with the GAVI Alliance whose mission is saving children’s lives by increasing access to immunization in poor countries.

To mark Africa this year’s Vaccination Week, which is an annual event celebrated by countries across the region on the theme; ‘Vaccines Protect Everyone, Get Vaccinated’, Dr Levine said the celebration coincides with the 1st anniversary of the Ministerial Conference on Immunization in Africa and the ground-breaking Addis Declaration on Immunization (ADI).

It is also the halfway point of the Regional Immunisation Strategic Plan (RISP) which aims to reach universal access to immunisation by 2020.

He praised Ghana for being the first African country to introduce pneumococcal and rotavirus vaccines at the same time, simultaneously tackling the leading causes of the world’s two biggest childhood killers, pneumonia and diarrhea, on April 26, 2012.

‘Ghana’s leadership on this dual-introduction paved the way for other African and Asian countries to follow suit’, he added.

He called on other African countries to learn from the encouraging success stories of other countries for the continent to thrive, both in terms of lives saved and growth realized.

Ghana he said had also benefits from a very high coverage rates for its basic vaccines with 80-90 percent of childhood coverage, adding that, ‘We want to see a world where every child and every mother has the protection that comes from receiving each and every vaccine so there is still more to do’.

Dr Levine outlined under resourced health systems, absence of dialogue and partnership, supply chains and logistics, inaccurate and unreliable data coupled with the strained conflict and natural disasters, as some of the challenges impeding the success of the work.

He commended Ghana for the strong partnership between communities and their local health workers, adding, ‘Vaccination programmes work best when health workers, traditional leaders, and parents are all actively involved and understand the value of vaccines and the importance of bringing kids in on time’.

He explained that by working together with governments, communities, religious and business leaders, volunteers and NGOS, parents could open up more, dialogue more about polio and even make more informed decisions.

He called the need to tackle issue of delivering of vaccines to help health workers protect more children, adding, and ‘Vaccines work best when they are kept cold, not frozen through every step of the journey from the factory to the cooler in even the most remote health clinic’.

Dr Levine noted that in remote areas without reliable refrigeration systems where maintaining precise temperature ranges could be challenging, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation was working with its partners to constantly use innovations to overcome the challenge.

For the first time in nearly 40 years, the leading edge of innovation in science and technology is being used to improve the way we keep vaccines safe and potent even in the hottest places or when electricity is missing or unpredictable.

New coolers and refrigerators that use solar power are becoming available for Ghana and many other African countries through support from GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance. Some of these innovations are using super engineered thermos technology to keep vaccines cold, without power, for over a month even in the hottest climates.

He called for accurate, high-quality data on where and how vaccines were successfully delivered, saying, and ‘The most useful data for long-term, widespread, and sustained delivery of vaccines is sub national data. While it’s useful to know the coverage rate for a whole country, there’s a lot that national data can’t tell you.’

Leaks/ This Nigerian Surgeon Removed A Lady’s Ovary Instead Of Her Appendix by PrettyPrisi(f) : 1:23 pm On May 14

59-year-old Nigerian Senior Surgeon, Dr. Lawal Haruna, who reportedly removed a woman’s ovary accidentally instead of her appendix has been struck off after being branded a ‘danger to patients’.

He allegedly botched up three operations over the course of two years including removing a woman’s ovary because he said the appendix and fallopian tubes were similar ‘worm-like structures’ in the same area.

The unnamed woman, known as Patient B, was treated by him when she was admitted for abdominal pain while he was working for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

During the operation, one of her ovaries was removed leaving her appendix – which was causing her great pain – in situ.

A tribunal heard how it was lucky she was not of child-bearing age as it could have affected her fertility.

Dr. Haruna botched up two further operations mistaking a lump of fat for an appendix in one case and a skin tag for a harmful lump in another.

Colleagues described the operations as poorly executed and ‘never events’.

The surgeon, who represented himself, told the Manchester hearing he had ‘poor vision’ at the time he carried out the surgery and claimed it would be ‘harsh’ to strike him off. But at the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service a disciplinary panel found him guilty of misconduct and banned him from treating patients.

Leaks/ MP inaugurates health facilities at Ellembelle by PrettyPrisi(f) : 11:26 am On May 15

Adubrim (W/R), May 14, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, has said he would continue to revive all the health centres in the district to ensure effective healthcare delivery.

He said the health of the people was paramount to the overall development of the district.

Mr Buah said this when he inaugurated two Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compounds at separate events at Adubrim and Akropong in the Ellembelle District. This brings to 25 the number of CHPS compounds in the District.

He said he lobbied the ENi Oil Company at Sanzule to provide the communities in the oil and gas enclave and others around the forest belt with the health posts.

He said such communities were in dire need of the health posts since they had to travel many kilometres before accessing medical care at the Asasetre Health Centre.

Mr Buah said the communities produced the chunk of food, especially cocoa, to feed the rest of the district and, as such, needed to seek medical attention regularly.

He asked the people to put the politics aside and maintain the health facilities which had the tendency to be converted into hospitals in the future.

Madam Elizabeth Corney, the District Director of Health Services, said the ENi Foundation built the facilities under the instrumentality of Mr Buah adding that the mobile clinic van that he provided in 2009 had been of immense benefit to the people.

She appealed to the communities to avoid littering the environment to avoid diseases such as cholera, malaria and dysentery.

Nana Assuah Miah, Chief of Adubrim, and Nana Adu Kwaw, Chief of Akropong, thanked the MP for the numerous developmental projects he had brought to the District.

They said such interventions had made it easier for pregnant women to access healthcare and ensure safe delivery adding; ‘the MP is a symbol of hope and development and we must all rally behind him.’

The chiefs appealed to government to help rehabilitate the roads in the District.

Romance/ Why are we having less s*x – Research by PrettyPrisi(f) : 6:13 pm On May 15

We live in one of the most sexually liberated times of human history. Access to new technologies over the past 40 years, whether it is the contraceptive pill, or dating apps such as Grindr and Tinder, have opened a new world of possibilities.

As the sexual revolution of the 1970s matured, societal norms shifted with it, with increasing acceptance of homosexuality, divorce, pre-marital sex, and alternative relationships such as polyamory and swinging.

Despite this, research suggests that we’re actually having less sex now than we have for decades.

On average, Americans had sex nine fewer times per year in the early 2010s compared to the late 1990s – a 15% drop

In March, American researchers Jean Twenge, Ryne Sherman and Brooke Wells published an article in the Archives of Sexual Behavior showing that Americans were having sex on average nine fewer times per year in the early 2010s compared to the late 1990s – a 15% drop from 62 times a year to just 53. The declines were similar across gender, race, region, educational level and work status, with married people reporting the most significant drops.

While it could be easy to dismiss this as a one-off, or a symptom of the challenges of researching people’s sex lives, this is another point in a growing trend across the world. In 2013, the National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (Natsal) found that British people between ages 16 and 44 had sex just under five times per month. This was a drop from the previous survey, released in 2000, where men were recorded to have sex 6.2 times a month, and women 6.3 times. In 2014 the Australian National Survey of Sexual Activity showed that people in heterosexual relationships were having sex on average 1.4 times per week, down from 1.8 times 10 years earlier. The situation is perhaps most severe in Japan, where recent data has shown that 46% of women and 25% of men between the ages of 16 and 25 ‘despise’ sexual contact.

Why is this happening?

While there are many simple conclusions available, BBC Future dug deeper and found a situation that is quite complex.

Porn blame

An easy first conclusion to make is that increased access to technology is to blame. Two technologies are usually targeted: online pornography and social media.

With the growth of online pornography, researchers have focused on its addictive potential, with some trying to label ‘internet sex addiction’ as an official psychiatric disorder. As an addiction, it is argued that porn acts as a replacement for real-life sex, limiting our sexual desire in the bedroom.

(Credit: Alamy)

Social media and pornography are often blamed for damaging our sex lives – yet the evidence is far from clear cut (Credit: Alamy)

Porn is also blamed for its unrealistic imagery, with researchers arguing this can create symptoms such as ‘sexual anorexia’, or ‘porn induced sexual dysfunction’. In 2011, a survey of 28,000 porn viewers in Italy found that many engaged in an “excessive” consumption of porn sites. The daily use of porn, researcher Carlo Foresta argued, means that these people became inured to “even the most violent” images. According to this theory, these unrealistic images found in porn make it difficult for men in particular to get aroused when encountering the real thing, resulting in them becoming ‘hopeless’ in the bedroom.

Some researchers have even argued there is a link between porn and marriage rates. In a study in 2014, researchers Michael Malcolm and George Naufal surveyed 1,500 participants in the United States to analyse how 18 to 35 year-olds used the internet, and what impact this had on their romantic lives. The results, published in the Eastern Economic Journal, found a strong correlation between high levels of internet use and low marriage rates, a factor that was even more significant for men who viewed online pornography on a regular basis.

And it’s not just pornography. Social media in particular has been blamed as a distraction, with people obsessing over their screens instead of their sexual lives. This is an extension of research that previously suggested having a TV in a couple’s bedroom significantly reduces sexual activity. It would make sense that the intrusion of social media devices into all aspects of our lives could have a similar effect.

But there are good reasons to question both of these conclusions. Researchers are split on the impact of pornography on our sexual lives, with many debating the existence of ‘internet sex addiction’ in the first place. Others have noted the potential for pornography to enhance sexual activity. For example, in 2015 an article in the journal Sexual Medicine found that watching at least 40 minutes of porn at least twice a week boosted people’s libido and desire to have sex.

This study tested the libido of 280 men measured against their use of pornography. The research found a strong correlation between the amount of time spent viewing porn and the desire to have sex, with those who watched over two hours of porn per week having the highest levels of arousal.

These results were noted as well by Twenge, Sherman and Wells in their research, who, despite finding overall drops in sexual activity, found no difference in sexual activity amongst those who frequently watched pornography.

(Credit: Getty Images)

Dating apps should make it easier than ever to find a sexual partner – yet millennials appear to be having less sex than previous generations (Credit: Getty Images)

The same can be said for social media. While social devices can certainly provide a distraction they also provide increasing avenues to access ‘sex on tap’. In fact research has shown that apps such as Grindr and Tinder may speed up people’s sexual lives, enabling sex on dates earlier and more regularly.

While technology definitely impacts our sexual lives, it cannot be blamed solely for the noted reductions in sexual activity.

Chained to the desk

Despite early dreams of a population liberated from work, our jobs seems to be intruding even further into our lives. Work hours remain extremely high across the Western world, with data recently showing that the average full-time employee in the US works 47 hours per week. It may seem logical to conclude that the fatigue and stress of work may lead to drops in sexual activity.

However it is not quite as simple as that. In 1998 for example Janet Hyde, John DeLamater and Erri Hewitt found in their research, published in the Journal of Family Psychology, that there was no reduction in sexual activity, satisfaction or desire between women who were homemakers and women who were employed either part-time or full-time. Contrary to the rest of their findings, Twenge, Sherman and Wells actually found that a busy work life correlated with higher sexual frequency.

Life in the fast lane can leave people feeling anxious, exhausted, and depressed – all of which may take a toll on their sex lives (Credit: Alamy)

But that does not mean work does not have an impact; instead, it’s the quality, rather than the quantity, of our work that matters. Having a bad job can be worse for your mental health than having no job, and this extends to our sexual lives as well. Stress in particular is increasingly being seen as the core indicator of drops in sexual activity and sexual happiness.

In 2010, for example, Guy Bodenmenn at the University of Zurich and his research team studied one hundred and three female students in Switzerland across a three month period, finding that higher self-reported stress was associated with lower levels of sexual activity and satisfaction. There are multiple impacts of stress, including changing hormone levels, contributing to negative body image, making us question relationships and partners, and increasing levels of drug and alcohol use. All of these have correlations between drops in sexual activity and sexual drive.

It’s about modern life

There are many other reasons to think that changes in our mental health and wellbeing may be damaging our sex lives. While Twenge, Sherman and Wells discounted both pornography use and work hours as causes behind the drops in sexual activity, the researchers argued the drops may be due to increasing levels of unhappiness. Western societies in particular have seen a mental health epidemic in the past few decades, focused primarily around depression and anxiety disorders.

There is a strong correlation between depressive symptoms and reduction in sexual activity and desire. Conducting a review of relevant studies for the Journal of Sexual Medicine, Evan Atlantis and Thomas Sullivan at the University of Adelaide found significant evidence that depression leads to increases in sexual dysfunction and reductions in sexual desire. Bringing this evidence together with the noted increases mental health issues, Twenge, Sherman and Wells argue there is a causal link between drops in happiness and average drops in sexual activity.

Research connects these mental health epidemics with the increasingly insecure nature of modern life, particularly for younger generations. It is this generation that has shown the highest drops in sexual activity, with research from Jean Twenge showing millennials are reporting having fewer sexual encounters than either Generation X or the baby boomers did at the same age. Job and housing insecurity, the fear of climate change, and the destruction of communal spaces and social life, have all been found to connect to mental health problems.

A mixture of work, insecurity and technology is leading us all to feel slightly less aroused

Drops in sexual activity could be argued, therefore, to reflect the nature of modern life. This phenomenon cannot be equated with one problem or another, but is in fact the culmination of many things. It is the creation of the stresses of modern life – a mixture of work, insecurity and technology.

Some may celebrate drops in sexual activity as a rejection of loosening sexual mores. But sex is important. It increases happiness, makes you healthier, and even makes you more satisfied at work. Most importantly, for the vast majority of people, sex is fun.

It is for these reasons that people around the world are trying to find ways to deal with this issue. In February this year Per-Erik Muskos, a councilman from the town of Overtornea in Sweden, introduced a proposal to provide the municipality’s 550 employees a subsidised hour each week to go home and have sex. Muskos talked up the benefits of sex, saying his proposal could “be an opportunity for couples to have their own time, only for each other.”

Japan has been trying to deal with this issue for a long time, particularly over fears of a plummeting birth rate. Parents in Japan are now being provided cash for having children, while for years companies have been encouraged to give citizens more time off work to procreate. This has involved one of the country’s large economic organisations, Keidanren, encouraging its 1,600 corporate members to allow their employees to spend more time with their families. Meanwhile, local authorities have encouraged procreation through a range of measures, including providing shopping vouchers to larger families and launching government-sanctioned matchmaker websites. The Australian government pursued something similar for many years, providing a ‘baby bonus’ to new parents up until 2014.

The problem with these proposals is that they are inevitably just a band-aid. While additional time off work and government incentives may have short-term effects, they do not deal with the structural problems behind the drops in happiness that may be dampening sex drives.

Just as this problem is multi-dimensional, so the solutions must be multi-dimensional as well. Tackling the sexual decline will require dealing with the very causes of the mental health crisis facing Western worlds – a crisis that is underpinned by job and housing insecurity, fears of climate change, and the loss of communal and social spaces. Doing so will not just help people with their sex lives, but benefit health and wellbeing overall.
