Shatta Wale in NEW YORK, July 1st for AFTER THE STORM US Tour by Jackie(f) : 2:37 am On May 06

Charles Nii Armah Mensah (Shatta Wale) returns to the US this July for a New York gig in his After The Storm US Tour.

The concert takes place at the PlayStation Theatre on July 1st, and is put together by LVC Entertainment, Boogie Down Nima, and TM Entertainment.

Shatta Wale’s Take Over (featuring Captan, Addi Self, and Joint 77) is the biggest song in the country currently. Together with other  flaming records as Ayoo, Umbrella, and Bumper, it further solidifies his reputation as perhaps, Ghana’s most influential musician –something which has been the case for five years straight.

Before the New York Show, Shatta Wale looks to defend Ghana’s flag against his Nigerian counterparts as Tiwa Savage, Davido, and Falz in the 7th edition of Empire‘s GhanaMeets Naija Concert slated for May 27. He will be joined in this task by “god mc” M.anifest.

The launch of After The Storm, Shatta Wale’s current album (released in April 2016) was witnessed by  a crowd 50, 000 strong. Held at the Black Star Square in Accra, it is the biggest album launch ever witnessed in Ghana. It birthed certified hits as Mahama Paper, Chop Kiss, Reality, Too Much Chemical, Kill Dem Wif Prayers, Dancehall King, If I Collect, Kakai, and Hol it.

Frontman of the Shatta Movement, he was recently named ambassador for Vodafone Ghana’s VIM campaign.

Ghana government condemns racist attack on Sulley Muntari by Jackie(f) : 6:46 am On May 06

Government has criticized the Italian Football Association for failing to punish some football fans who racially abused Ghanaian international, Sulley Muntari, during a Serie A game earlier this week.

The former Black Stars player walked off the pitch in the dying minutes of the game in protest against the racial abuse he suffered from some fans.

His complaint to the referee about the abuse only got him a booking in the game between his Pescara side and Cagliari.

The incident has attracted global attention, with bodies such as the UN , FIFPRO and some important football personalities supporting Muntari for the action.

Ghana‘s Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Pius Hadzidze in an interview with Citi News condemned the attack on the footballer.

‘Racism of any kind is an action that must be condemned by all. We as the Ministry of Youth and Sports unequivocally condemn the racist attack that was targeted at Sulley Muntari. We condemn it in no uncertain terms and we are calling on football governing bodies across the world and particularly the football governing body of Italy to investigate the circumstances under which he [Muntari] rather became the one who was punished and the fans of the team that were shouting the racists slurs and insults at Muntari rather have been left off the hook.’

The Italian FA in a rather shocking decision sanctioned Muntari by barring him from featuring in a game for the walk-off.

According to a disciplinary committee that investigated the matter, official match reports stated that, only 10 football fans out of the 2,000 spectators chanted the racist slurs.

But the Deputy Minister said, ‘they must take firm unbiased and fair steps to ensure that such actions do not repeat themselves. We stand in solidarity with all the people who have condemned this clear act of racism against Sulley Muntari.’

Mahama backs Muntari’s protest after racial abuse

Ghana’s Former President John Dramani Mahama, has also backed Sulley Muntari’s walk-off after he was racially abused by fans during Pescara’s Serie A match with Cagliari on Sunday.

Mr. Mahama in a tweet said he stood with Muntari .

Kofi Kinaata ‘Mocks’ Medikal after Winning Artiste of the Year in Western Region by Jackie(f) : 1:39 am On May 07

Rapper Medikal’s failure to win even one award out of seven nominations at the 2017 Ghana Music Awards generated a lot of media attention. His loss raised lots of eyebrows with many calling the awards suspicious.

Kofi Kinaata, on the other hand, went home smiling that night, winning three awards, including Highlife Artiste of the Year at the same event.

Interestingly, Medikal’s loss became the reference for Kofi Kinaata, who was adjudged the Artiste of the Year at the Western Music Awards.

In his acceptance speech, the ‘Confessions’ hit singer told patrons that he nearly became “Tardi Medikal” meaning he nearly became “Takoradi Medikal”.

Kofi Kinaata’s comment follows a long wait before he won an award out of his nominations at the awards that came off at the Best Western Atlantic Hotel in Takoradi on April 29.

The Western Music Awards was attended by several musicians from the region including Gyedu Blay Ambulley and Nero X.

A grateful Kofi Kinaata knelt down to show gratitude to his Takoradi fans for their support.

Below is Kofi Kinaata’s speech:
