Today, January 15th marks the late Martin Luther King Jr.'s 89th birthday. This year also marks 50 years since Martin was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee after becoming a prominent leader in the civil rights movement.

Martin's work for the black community remains with many today as some of his most powerful statements and quotes will be remembered for years going forward. 

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

In light of the today's celebration, a number of hip-hop emcees and notable figures have taken to social media to pay respects to Martin and the legacy he's created.
