Disabled persons must prove a point in managing tollbooths- Dadzie-Dennis by Angiegal(f) : 8:30 am

Executive Secretary for the National Council on Persons with Disability, Kwamena Dadzie-Dennis has appealed to persons with disability who will be engaged by the Ministry of Roads and Highways to man tollbooths in the country to live up to expectation.

“They must live up to the task so that government will see that we are indeed capable and give us other opportunities to work”, he revealed on Accra-based Adom Fm.

He lauded government’s decision to engage them indicating it is a wakeup call for those walking on the streets begging for alms that they can be useful to society and therefore must concentrate on empowering themselves in that respect.

The Roads and Highways Ministry has announced it is engaging over two hundred members of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled to manage all toll booths across the country

“The ministry has started giving them training and two hundred and fifty of the members will be welcome with employment so take note of that”, the Deputy Roads Minister, Anthony Karbo explained.

The sector minister had promised the Parliamentary Vetting Committee his decision to employ disabled persons to manage toll booths if given the nod.

He also revealed that government will automate the booths to prevent mangers from diverting monies into their private pockets adding anyone found capable of cheating the system will not be spared by the law.
