Yesterday, July 5th was a sad day for market women at Makola when a fire gutted one of the buildings causing majority of shop owners to lose goods worth 100s of cedis.

The fire which started around 9am couldn’t be quenched by the fire service who were 2 minutes away because they claimed they didn’t have water in their tanks.

They had to wait hours for water from other fire stations before using close to four hours to put it under control.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police force, always have adequate water in huge tanks to disperse demonstrators when the need be.

This has raised serious concerns about how the whole forces are functioning without adequate tools. It’s literally an abomination for a National Fire Service to not have water in their tanks awaiting an unexpected fire outbreak.What is the essence of having a fire station at the market where fire outbreak is unavoidable without the most important tool (water)?
