The President of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has responded to the numerous calls by Ghanans to put the country in lockdown to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Over the past few days, Ghanaians have mounted pressure on the ruling government to lock down the country over the rising cases of coronavirus.

Just two days ago, the Ghana Medical Association in a press release demanded from the government an immediate suspension of the Ghana card registration in the Eastern Region and also a possible lockdown.

According to them, this is the only way Ghana can stop the import of Coronavirus into the country as more cases have been recorded in just a few days.

The GMA noted that Ghana’s health system is not well equipped enough to handle more cases.

Responding to the calls by the Ghana Medical Association and the numerous Ghanaians, the President in a press statement noted that the government is looking at all the implications before making the decision to either lock down the country or not.

Addressing the press, President Nana Addo said; “A responsible government is required to look at all the implications before decisions are made. And that is the exercise we are currently engaged in, and I am hoping that much sooner than later, we will come to an agreement on what those measures are and the Ghanaian people will be informed”.
